Why I Am Thrilled About Crosby’s Return

The hockey world has been abuzz with the recent news that Sidney Crosby will be returning to the Penguins’ lineup later this week after suffering another setback earlier this season, and justifiably so. The return of the best player in the world is news enough, but this very well may impact the fortunes of every team in the league, as Crosby’s return will undoubtedly make a dangerous Penguins team even… dangerouser.

I, for one, am thrilled with this news. Obviously most hockey fans are happy to see Sid return for his own sake, and very few true fans of the game would like to see a player with such talent taken away from the sport so early. However there is another, perhaps more selfish, reason I’m excited to see Crosby recovered from his injury.

I am sick and tired of hearing about it.

Ever since his first concussion, analysts, panelists, commentators, and critics have been talking non-stop about the issue. Sure, the game’s biggest star being injured indefinitely is big news, but how many times can we endure hockey experts speculating on Crosby’s condition and return when they have little or no information on the subject beyond the fact that he has a concussion?

I personally like Crosby as a hockey player, and hope he quickly returns to top form and shows his offensive dominance. I also hope that hockey analysts and media move on from this story, as there are many other players and story-lines worthy of their attention.

Is Crosby’s return over-hyped? Leave a comment or tweet me @AdamLanger.
